share details- 1st distribution

This morning we completed a successful harvest in the light drizzle. In addition, we've been working to improve the share room and the garden in anticipation of everyone's arrival. We're looking forward to begin seeing everyone weekly!

SHARE OFFERINGS:
mixed LETTUCE GREENS

BROCCOLI
ARUGULA
RHUBARB
MINT

PARSLEY
GARLIC SCAPES
Both the RHUBARB and GARLIC SCAPES won't be around too long! If you're interested in using them but not quite sure how, check out some details below.

To celebrate the first successful harvest, and since we have ample RHUBARB, we're going to make rhubarb bellini later tonight. If you're trying to go beyond the standard rhubarb pie, take a look at the simple recipe Flip had stored just for the occasion:

RHUBARB BELLINI:
makes 6

ingredients:
3/4 lb rhubarb, trimmed & sliced fine
1/4 cup sugar
1 bottle bubbly

directions:
-simmer , rhubarb +water + sugar until thick and rhubarb  is tender.
-puree, let cool.
-divide into 6 glasses
-pour cold champagne over it

GARLIC SCAPES will only be available for this week and next week. The scapes are the garlic seeds getting ready to flower, but since we want them to keep growing, we cut them off. They have a mild garlic flavor, and are a great tastebud teaser to the upcoming supply of garlic we'll be providing after the harvest.

If you're looking for something to do with your fresh GARLIC SCAPES, think about adding them into a stir fry. Or, if you'd like to enjoy them later in the year, try pickling.

Time to build a greenhouse!!

The fundraising campaign for building an in-ground greenhouse was a success! The overall arc was impressive. We started with strong support at the kickoff barn party. And the finish was powerful as well with dozens of donors showing their support. It was a unique and rewarding experience to be sure.

We'll break ground shortly and aim to be up and running in time to plant hardy greens for the fall/winter.

THANKS ALL. We look forward to showing you around the building in the future.

from weedy to wonderful

The second full week of the apprentices on board here at the farm has helped turned the place around. We had a mounting to-do list at the close of May, with Flip still working off-farm. Now June has arrived and we've all worked hard to achieve LOTS of planting as well as tackle some overdue weeding with the assist from many shareholders on weekday nights and Saturday mornings. Weeding may be a humble task, but the results are awesomely clear. Couple shots below of tackling the raspberries (in the rain) the last couple days.

Share Distribution starts June 24th

We are on track to begin vegetable distribution of veggies weekly starting Tuesday June 24th. If you have chosen a pickup day (Tuesday or Friday), we'll honor that choice. If you marked, 'flexible,' on your enrollment form (thank you!), we'll assign you weekly days based on having relatively even numbers for each day. The week before distribution we'll send out a notice to each shareholder reminding them of their pickup day. Let us know if you no longer prefer the day you've originally signed up for.

For Fresh, Fall shareholders, your pickup day will be confirmed in August.
We still have space for Fresh, Fall shareholders, so spread the word!

The early shares will be comprised of a mix of leafy greens and herbs, with snap peas and garlic scapes being the first non-leafy offerings. We mention this because though we aim to offer a diversity each week,  it's important to be aware that some of the staple crops like beans, carrots, cukes and tomatoes will not yet be mature.

CD release of Harvester music

There's live music this weekend at the UU church. Original songs performed by Dan Harvester. You may have met him in the fields at littleGrasse last year. His sister Hannah did the cover art for his new CD and was an engaged enthusiastic shareholder for several years before moving from the area. They'll both be in town for a visit this weekend and Dan will share songs from the album on 8pm this Saturday. You may recognize the tune, 'Lie Down, Great Pan,' as it was the soundtrack to a recent littleGrasse video.

Hear snippets of the songs on CD Baby!

Hope to see you there! Great chance to catch up with the Harvester family before they head back to Western Mass.
